I’ve produced content for multiple media outlets across several platforms, giving me experience in news reporting, long- and short-form feature writing, alternative story formats, video, photography and multimedia storytelling.
On the following pages, you can view some of my best work from the past few years. This is divided into a few specialties:
Reporting: I’m currently an education reporter at the Telegraph Herald in Dubuque, Iowa. In the past, I’ve worked at The Joplin Globe as a county reporter and at the Columbia Missourian as both an education reporter and long-form feature writer. I’ve also spent time at the Telegraph Herald and The Kansas City Star as a reporting intern.
Assignment editing: I spent about nine months as an assistant city editor at the Missourian, where I worked two shifts a week on the general assignment desk, helping reporters shape their stories for publication. I also worked specifically with the education and community beats.
Copy editing: I spent a few months on the Missourian’s interactive copy desk, where I edited stories for accuracy, style, grammar and clarity. I also wrote headlines for both print and the website, uploaded photos and edited captions and composed social media posts for Twitter and Facebook.
Multimedia: During my time as a journalist, I’ve gained basic skills in working with audio, video and photography. These capabilities have proved invaluable as I’ve produced published photos and videos and engaged in multimedia storytelling.
