Copy Editing

I spent my fall 2013  working as a copy editor for the Columbia Missourian. Throughout the semester, I spent time on both the interactive copy desk and the print desk, refining stories before they went live either online or in print. My responsibilities included editing stories and graphics for accuracy, flow, grammar and style; writing headlines for both print and online; editing cutlines and uploading photos; and composing social media posts.

My time on the copy desk helped me further refine my skills as a journalist, teaching me how to more carefully craft stories to make them concise, readable and, above all, accurate.

Here are a few stories I worked with during that stint:

Missouri golf teams open new clubhouse with ‘bells and whistles’

Gun safety group seeks ouster of Missouri Capitol staffer who left firearm in bathroom

Missouri football fans make impressive showing in Nashville

Alternative PTSD therapies finding a home in Columbia

MU theater troupe sparks breast cancer dialogue
